General Thoughts

A touching, wonderful read with a cast of characters that will make you laugh, swoon and cry. This time around Jennifer L. Armentrout, writing as J. Lynn, leaves the paranormal genre behind to deal with realistic problems and relationships.

Some things are worth waiting for…
Some things should never be kept quiet…
And some things are worth fighting for…

Main Characters

Avery

Pretty, introverted and somewhat awkward, Avery Morgansten moves thousands of miles away from home, running from her past. She has a lot to deal with and hides away in her shell, keeping her secrets close and everyone else at arm's length. However, upon meeting Cam, or more accurately, plowing into him, on her first day of freshman year in college, she begins to realise that maybe
standing up, opening up and moving on is indeed possible.

"Racing up the wide staircase, I barreled through the double doors and smacked right into a brick wall. Something strong and hard went around my waist, stopping my free fall. A second later I was pressed against the wall.
The wall was strangely warm.
The wall chuckled.
“Whoa,” a deep voice said. “You okay, sweetheart?”
The wall was so not a wall."
Avery, Chapter 1

 Cam

Cameron Hamilton is instantly smitten with the "adorably" awkward, hot girl next door and takes upon himself to get past her defenses. Gorgeous -six feet and three inches of swoon-worthy hotness, complete with a pair of striking blue eyes-, fun, smart, thoughtful, caring and protective (these guys of Jennifer's have the annoying tendency of not existing in real life...), he draws Avery in with his charms and witty banter.

"His eyes met mine and it was hard to maintain that stare. Those eyes really were a beautiful shade of azure, sharp and clear. The kind of eyes you could easily get lost staring into." Avery, chapter 7

His determination and unfailing confidence, if anything, are quite admirable; when he learns she's never been on a date he starts asking her out and keeps doing so every day for months, even though she always turns him down.

"He was gorgeous in a way that made girls do stupid things." Avery, Chapter 6

Also, he calls her "Sweetheart". What's not to like?

Naturally, he becomes her best friend in a matter of weeks.

But when Avery starts receiving threatening emails and phone calls forcing her to face a past she wants silenced, when the devastating truth comes out, will she resurface this time with one less scar? And can Cam be there to help her or will he be dragged down with her?

"If I had any doubts about the seriousness of our relationship, they were vanquished that evening.
Cam brought Raphael over to my apartment.
Nothing got more serious than allowing a tortoise to crawl across your kitchen floor." – Page 290.

Did I mention he has a pet turtle? (And yes, it's name is a reference to The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles)

“You’ve been checking me out, haven’t you? In between your flaming insults? I feel like man candy.”
-Cam

Brit & Jacob

Avery's two best friends are fun and supportive, taking care of her and talking some sense into her (or trying to) when she screws everything up with hasty decisions, or tries to cope by shutting out the people who love her (ie. Cam).

Plot/ Narrating

I think we've already established that J. Armentrout's books are awesome, so moving on to details about Wait for You.

The heroine starts off looking a tad socially awkward, unable to start a conversation and panicking over trivial stuff, like being late to class. Running away is her go-to answer when things start looking
grim. And she's not one wear her heart on her sleeve, so if you're looking for insta-love you won't find it here.

"There were two things in life that scared the ever-loving crap out of me. Waking up in the middle of the night and discovering a ghost with its transparent face shoved in mine was one of them. Not likely to occur, but still pretty damn freaky to think about. The second thing was walking into a crowded classroom late." Avery, first sentence of Chapter 1

The characters and their relationships develope realistically through the book, and believe me, you'll fall in love with Cam long before she does.

By the end of the book Avery has really matured, she's comfortable in her own skin, making witty comments back and forth with Cam, laughing with her friends, doing well in school. She's found her voice, learned to trust, to face her problems, to stand up to her parents. And that's just what the book is about: learning to move on despite the bad things in life and growing stronger for them.

All in All

Go read it!
